In this project, I collected a number of essays that I wrote as extended answers to questions, when I felt that the basic knowledge needed for a meaningful discussion was absent with too large a percentage of the participants, in the exchange following a ResearchGate question. Sometimes I wrote an essay also just as a detailed answer to a single contributor, but always with the general readership in mind. These contributions were pdf files prepared using LaTeX, as rigor required the use of mathematical formulas, which are most easily typeset using a dedicated typesetting system.
ResearchGate has discontinued projects, so there was no single place on their web sites where I could maintain the entire collection. The files were also posted on the answer pages of the question to which they referred, so they are still somewhere, but it is nontrivial to navigate to a particular essay. You have to know which question it was answering and you have to click through -- possibly many and very old -- pages to eventually find it.
To make these articles accessible more easily again, I collect them on my personal web pages for the public.
These essays are -- hopefully -- useful starting points to learn about a particular aspect of a scientific question and they often debunk misconceptions. In some cases, they also give the definite answer to a question, but that is not so frequent. Whenever I write a new extended answer of the essay type and post it as a pdf file, I will add an entry here to have them all collected in one place.
