This was in response to an attempt by Robert Shuler trying to show that light and massive particles fall differently in a gravitational field, i.e. that the equivalence principle predicted different accelerations for them. It is known that there is a difference of a factor of 2 between the Newtonian and the general relativistic predictions for light bending in the gravitational field of a spherical object. But this difference is not the consequence of a failure of the equivalence principle. I show that Shuler's correction is a higher-order effect, whereas the equivalence principle refers to local lowest-order effects.
